Theme 3 – Raising Awareness and Outreach activities
These projects have initiated various activities to engage local communities and different stakeholders as part of an overall strategy for better heritage management. They include various methods such as outreach activities with the general public aimed at a range of age groups, awareness-raising campaigns, and educational programmes focused on heritage with local schools.
There were 5 mini-projects focused on outreach activities and awareness-raising campaigns: 4 in Libya and 1 in Tunisia. Through these projects, new collaborations were established with local schools in the Fezzan region and eastern Libya, Lepcis Magna in Libya and Acholla in Tunisia. They included collaborations between the DoA, INP, eight local NGO’s, the Red Crescent and five other heritage bodies. The total number of schools involved was 23, and the activities have so far impacted around 1,354 children and 2,300 adults. The printed materials have reached more than 2,100 people from the local communities in these areas. The trainees have appeared in 3 television documentaries about Libyan heritage, 2 interviews on national TV and 1 on a local radio station. Site panels have been added at 3 sites in Libya and 1 site in Tunisia in multiple languages aimed at engaging local populations.
